What's a Vibrant Phoenix?

What's A Vibrant Phoenix?

A phoenix is a majestic, mythical, sacred bird with colorful plummage who willfully ignites its nest and self, burns fiercely as it is consumed by the flames. The phoenix then rises as a young creature from the ashes. This bird, revered in both western & eastern cultures, is associated with immortality and rebirth as well as benevolence.
Theatrics honors "phoenixity!" ...the ability of individuals, businesses, and cultures to reinvent themselves in an effort to not just survive in life, but to thrive.
So, Theatrics Unlimited encourages all to go green by reinventing clothing and pieces & parts of "stuff," and recycling perceptions in search  of  a thriving personal, spiritual, and professional  life.
"Phoenixity" enpowers us to cut our wedding dress (I know you're cringing, but hopefully you won't need that dress again for a wedding) and make a Christening gown (ah, now isn't that a great idea;) wear someone else's discarded wedding gown as a vampire bride of (aka Mrs. Dracula?) for Hallowene*; add loopy sticky stuff to a skirt that was our mother's to create a bathroom curtain; to felt a wool sweater and create a purse or broach; spray paint garden prunings silver for the holiday decorations; turn curtains into dresses and tablecloths (Scarlett’s not the only resourceful southern belle!) We at theatrics can  do these repurposings for you or with you.** It’s your choice!  choices!
The "phoenixity" expert at theatrics is Sharon. Come meet this woman who has created costumes from fabric, discarded clothing, draperies, well you get the idea; tablecloths from fabric remnants; art from discarded and broken "stuff;" centerpieces from chipped crystal, old candles, and  paper towel rolls...
Wanna be a "Vibrant Phoenix?" Come see us at Theatrics! We are teaching a free class on it for Hallowene* costumes, with a little fashion thrown in,  Oct 16 at 12 noon and at 2:00 pm!  We are at 981 King Street in Charleston.
Visit the Vibrant Phoenix showroom at theatrics &, better yet, 10% of the Phoenix sales goes to the Clemente Course. ***

Why do we spell Hallowene differently? Because we've been doing  Hallowene A Lot differently for 33 Hallowene's! (Wow! Can Sharon be that old?)
By this time, I imagine you're wondering "why is a costume rental house helping me make my own costume?" Well, we have still have those 30,000 professional costumes we've made these last 32 years and if you need  or want something professionally stunning like Peter Peter Pumpkineater, that famous egg that fell off the wall, or some spectacular green Emerald City outfit not to mention The Count, Santa & his entourage, the King of Chocolate... well the list goes on & on, BUT there are some of you who might like to activate that creative gene and author their disguise with a little professional guidance. So, here's our legacy, Lowcountry! We're willing to share! Sharon's done theatre (costuming,make-up,acting,directing, & writing) for her whole senior citizen life & is proud of it!
The Clemente Course is a program sponsored by Trident Technical College and offers 2 free humanities courses to the extremely impoverished in the Charleston area. This program, begun by Earl Shorris in New York City  in 1995 & is sponsored by colleges globally. Shorris was inspired by a woman prisoner  “You’ve got to teach the moral life of downtown to the children.  And the way you do that, Earl, is by taking them downtown to plays, museums, concerts, lectures, where they can learn the moral life of downtown."  TTC began in 2003 and is currently the only site in the souteast. For  additional info, see www.tridenttech.edu/6238_6318.htm.
Talk about a phoenix... the Clemente Course asks these students to truly reinvent themselves, just like a phoenix! Are YOU up for a challenge today? It’s your choice.
